Small Farm Canada Magazine – This is a great little magazine with stories and features from across Canada. The editor is a long-time farmer and the magazine is published in Metchosin, BC, not too far away as the crow flies. We became acquainted with the magazine when I was presented with a two year subscription as a retirement gift from one of my long time clients, Mrs. Lennox, herself a farmer among the many other hats she wears.
One of the neat sections I always look forward to is the ‘Innovations’ page where farmers share some of their ideas and inventions. A few months back I decided to submit my story of harvesting spuds without the use of a fork or spade, and thus avoiding the usual collateral damage that comes with digging spuds.
Before long I heard back from the editor and he said they would like to use my story. Then there was another email and they wanted to know our dog’s name. So needless to say Donna and I were smiling when we picked up the mail the other day and there was this month’s issue of Small Farm Canada featuring our story. And not only that, we were the ‘feature innovation’ and were awarded $100.
