Nellie Jeffery Collection

Nellie Jeffery Collection of First Nation Artifacts

This collection of First Nation artifacts was donated to the Museum in 2008. It is housed in a hand-crafted cabinet built by Walter Grundmann specifically to display the collection. Nellie Jeffery lived her whole life on Cortes – mostly in Smelt Bay. Nellie found the first of the artifacts while digging the basement of her home in the 1930s. This awakened her lifelong passion for finding and collecting local First Nation artifacts.
