An evening of poetry and reminiscences, caringly hosted by artist Tanya Henck, was held at the Cortes Island Museum to honour the memory of the writer Gilean Douglas, who died on Hallowe’en 25 years ago. The event marked the beginning of a series of exhibits celebrating 20 years of programming at the museum and drew on content about Gilean previously featured in a 2000-year display.
Thank you, Tanya, for bringing to life the words of a beloved Cortes Island icon.
Books by Gilean Douglas, archival records of her life on Cortes, and Gilean Douglas: Writing Nature, Finding Home, co-authored by the museum’s archivist Jill Milton, are still available in the museum shop.
The audience was also treated to a preview of Curiouser and Curiouser, a new exhibit of weird and wonderful collections that foreshadow the inception of modern museum practice.
