(Curated by Jill Milton, mounted by Doreen Thompson)
A well-known and respected writer and naturalist, Gilean Douglas spent the later part of her life at Channel Rock on Cortes Island. As well as telling her life-story, the exhibit featured her many contributions to the Island community, and to the world at large through her published works. The Archives houses the Gilean Douglas fonds which includes papers, writings, documents, photographs and albums containing her collection of Edwardian greeting cards and travel post cards. The Museum also has in its collection some of Gilean’s famous hats, her wooden skiis, ski boots and portable typewriter. Several of her books, as well as her biography, Writing Nature, Finding Home, are available in the museum shop
