Milbert’s tortoiseshell (Aglais milberti)

The Milbert’s tortoiseshell, sighted by 7-year-old Daleia who thinks it should be called the “cat-face butterfly” for the appearance of cat’s eyes on its wings, was sighted on Sutil Point road, just past Siskin Lane, May 2020.

Reported by Jodi Peters, 12 May 2020.

Aglais milberti, the fire-rim tortoiseshell or Milbert’s tortoiseshell, is considered the only species of the proposed Aglais genus that occurs in North America. More information can be found on Wikipedia.
