Mary Weiler’s Cortes

GLIMPSES OF OLD FRIENDS & AN ERA GONE BY–Mary Weiler, artist & photographer, documented life on Cortes & its people until she left the island. Mary Weiler’s Cortes, slide show presented by Brig Weiler who narrated slides from 1962 to 1974 with faces of old friends, glimpses of homesteading & times rapidly becoming “The Old Days”–gathered both younger and older Cortesians.  The slides were presented using an old-fashion slide projector–we are a museum, after all!  We watched island covered with snow, washed out roads and roads full of mud, old Halloween parties, homesteaders and hippies, and more…

Attendance was 96 with most being “old timers”, some who we don’t usually see out at events.

Brig mentioned there were thousands of her mother’s slides & she only used 80 in this presentation. So, naturally the consensus from many attending was “When is Brig’s next presentation scheduled?!”

Brig, an artist in her own right, had her new original art cards for sale. Sponsored by the Cortes Museum the show was on Thursday, January 26, 2017 in Manson’s Hall.
