Literary Afternoons

A Song Inside A Seed

Spring tickles our island ground despite Winter’s late embrace
of snowfalls and close calls and toques still in place
Writers sharing as they expound through the ancient grace
of expressing with the alphabet and between time and space

So good the readings from all the creatives who coalesced
Hearing our neighbours literary labours I feel so blessed
Stories so fully alive they flew deep within my chest
Gratitude so underrated is here and now expressed

All those who put good thought to word and better yet to deed
know that traction demands action if we are to honour a need
Reminding me of what I heard from a song inside a seed
If I want my love to truly grow then it’s never fear I feed

Writers took over the Museum and united to entertain!

With some exhibits moved aside, a relaxing afternoon was enjoyed on November 20th, 2016 by a near capacity gathering at the Cortes Museum for a variety of prose and poetry readings from local authors.  These ever-more popular Literary Afternoons are a joint venture with the Museum and Seniors Helping Seniors, co-ordinated by Carina Verhoeve.  The interesting writings of Monica Nawrocki, Joan Bevington, Oriane Lee Johnston, Stephen Moyse and Dayna Davies were most entertaining.  Refreshments afterwards included sweets with tea and coffee served in the Museum’s collection of antique china cups.  After choosing a favourite cup and saucer, participants lingered to chat with friends.

Not just for seniors, these Literary Afternoons are advertised on the Museum website, Tideline and the Seniors’ monthly newsletter.  Mark your calendar for the next Literary Afternoon on Sunday, January 22, 2017, 2 – 3:30 p.m. at the Cortes Museum.

See Literary Afternoons for more information about these events.
