ABUZZ with Gratitude

“ABUZZ” with GRATITUDE!

A big thank-you to Cortes beekeeper, Jenny Hartwick, for bringing her demonstration hive to the Museum’s Listening to Bees exhibit.  It was fascinating to watch the worker bees attending their queen and to see brand-new bees emerging from their cells.  Everyone present, particularly the kids (future beekeepers?), enjoyed listening to Jenny’s experiences of tending bees.

On August 19, 2021, from 10 a.m. to noon, Jenny Hartwick, one of Cortes Island’s beekeepers  installed an “observation hive” in the Museum’s exhibit gallery.

It was an opportunity to watch hundreds of bees at work in a glass frame.

Our gallery host guided visitors through the exhibit sharing facts and lore about both native and honeybees, talked  about why bees are dying and informed about what we can do to protect them. It was also an opportunity to  wander through our Heritage Garden which too was buzzing with bees.
