AGM–Sunday, March 27

(this text does not show, instead it is a link….)

Spring is not far off, and here on Cortes we have much to be thankful for.  Early sightings of bees, familiar bird songs, and budding fruit trees are signs of hope in these most difficult times.

It has been another challenging year so far, but we are pleased to announce our upcoming Annual General Meeting. We hope you will be able to join us at Manson’s Hall on Sunday, March 27. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. for new memberships, membership renewal, and book sales.  This event is our major membership drive and your support – whether through membership fees or in-kind volunteering with your time and energy – is so important and greatly appreciated.

The meeting kicks off at 1 p.m. with an agenda that includes a summary of 2021, what’s happening at the Museum & Archives this year, and new projects we have in store.  The AGM Agenda, 2021 Financial Statement and 2021 Annual Report will soon be posted, so please check here again prior to the meeting to read these documents online. Printed copies will also be available at the door.

We are thrilled to have David Ellingsen as our special presenter. Raised on Cortes, David is an internationally known photographer whose work speaks to the relationship between humans and the natural world; his long-term projects focus on climate, biodiversity, and the forest. In this talk, David will present his recent series Falling Boundaries, along with two other current bodies of work, and offer a brief glimpse of his new projects for 2023.

In addition to welcoming memberships and donations, there will be a second donation jar available to anyone wishing to contribute to the Red Cross in support of the Ukrainian people.

We look forward to seeing you at the AGM.

COVID-19 Guidelines – Important Note

For the well-being of all, the Museum’s Board is requiring vaccine passports and masks for those attending this event.   We are anticipating a large turnout for this AGM and David Ellingsen’s talk, and although the provincial guidelines to wear masks indoors were lifted on March 11, the current spread of COVID-19 on island persuaded us to take this precautionary approach.  We ask for your understanding. We also ask that if you are feeling sick for any reason, please refrain from attending this event.
