WILD CORTES at the Linnaea Farm Education Centre is open during winter for special, advertised events only, noon to 4 p.m. Please check our events calendar for exact dates.
This fall and winter, Wild Cortes will not have scheduled hours but will open for special events and guest speakers. Take a walk on the WILD side and join us for one of these events at our fabulous off-site natural history center, located in the Linnaea Farm School building.
Wild Cortes Exhibit gallery will be open 12 to 4 p.m. with featured guests from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
November – date to be announced, meet our taxidermist, Laurel Bohart (please check the date in our Events Calendar)
Sunday, December 9 – Gone to the Birds!
Special guest speaker George Sirk will chirp about winter birding and the upcoming Christmas Bird Count (planned for Sunday, December 16).
Thanks to generous funding from BC Museums Association, Heritage BC and BC Canada 150, you can now take a stroll on the wild side of Cortes Island to see mounted specimens—by taxidermist Laurel Bohart—from a dragonfly to a giant hornet nest to Raven’s Relations to eagles to a baby beaver and seals. You can compare skulls, marvel at a Curiosity Cabinet, try on costumes of endangered species, peruse our in-house library, put a puzzle of Cortes watersheds together, get eye-to-eye with eagles and a heron and find out what’s raiding an oystercatcher’s nest!
Entrance is down the steps near Linnaea’s front door with a handicap entrance down the Library ramp. Admission is by donation.
Do animals and ecology interest you? Wild Cortes is looking for volunteers to host our exhibit. Training happily provided. Call Lynne Jordan at 250-935-6472.
